AMBER (NWF Reading)

2 September 2024 6:45PM Old Fitz, 129 Dowling St, NSW, Australia.
“Amber is looking for the love of her life. No seriously, has anyone seen him?”

Note: this a free staged reading presented as part of the Fitz’s inaugural New Works Festival.

Meet Amber. She's a Richard Curtis Rom-Com fanatic and has been praying for God to send her the man of her dreams ever since she was fifteen. When she's first kissed and half-fingered by the coolest boy in school at the back of Edgecliff Centre she's pretty sure her love story is on track to be the greatest one of all time.

Except it isn't. By the time she realises the actual love of her life is her best friend Luca (a guy she placed firmly in the friend zone long ago) she's too late and Luca becomes unreachable in a way that she could never have imagined. Overnight their love story becomes complicated and messy, shattering Amber's heart and everything she once knew to be true. But with the help of some unlikely heroes, a bit of soul-searching and even the odd miracle, Amber slowly pieces herself back together and learns to live with an ever-broken heart.

AMBER delves into the complexities of love, loss and faith to derail romantic comedies from the Brat-Pack era to the noughties and rebuild a new kind of Rom-Com fit for our times.
